Tuesday's Thought of the Day
“After He left the synagogue, He entered the house of Simon. Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever, and they interceded with Him about her. He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and waited on them. To other towns I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God, because for this purpose I have been sent.”
Just as Jesus healed the illness of Simon Peter’s mother-in-law because Peter asked for help, He can heal your afflictions. We must have faith in the mercy of Jesus and His ability to correct what is hurting us. We must ask and believe He will bring us comfort. It may not be the change we want and it is not fast enough, but maybe He is waiting for you to change so that the change or comfort He brings to you, you are ready to accept. When Jesus started His public ministry, He was literally on a mission from God. He was finished with His business in Capernaum and was off to spread the good news to the people in Judea. The word Christian means to be a person that follows Christ. Jesus gave comfort to the ill and afflicted and Jesus spent much of His time spreading the good news. Sisters and brothers, do you consider yourself to be a good Christian? If you answered in the affirmative, do you follow the example of Jesus? When someone is ill (physically or spiritually) or in distress, do you minister to their needs? Do you give them physical comfort? Do you try to uplift them spiritually? If not, are you a true Christian? Do you spread the good news of the gospels to everyone you meet, do you evangelize in the name of Jesus Christ? My dear friends, the second greatest commandment is to love others as you love yourself. It is your duty as a Christian, a follower of Christ, to have mercy and compassion for your fellow brothers and sisters. It is great if you are doing this; do more. If you are not, you may want to reassess your claim to be a Christian and start acting like one. I have confidence you will do so…your life depends on it.
LORD Jesus, I know You have the power to heal because I have felt Your healing touch. Your good news uplifts me every day. May I take the gifts and graces You so generously bestowed on me, and share it with others. I pray nothing stops me from giving myself totally to You in wholehearted service, for the greater glory of Your kingdom. AMEN
