Tuesday's Thought of the Day
“My soul magnifies the LORD, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.
What a beautiful verse. Mary is telling this to her cousin, Elizabeth, who was pregnant with John the Baptist. Upon seeing Mary, Elizabeth tells her, “Most blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb”. Of course, Mary is with child, Jesus. When the angel Gabriel appears to Mary, he addressed her as, “Hail favored one! The LORD is with you”. Mary had the courage to accept being the mother of Jesus. Mary was a poor little Jewish girl. She was not some rich person or a queen. God chooses ordinary people and makes them extraordinary. He did this with Mary and He did this with His apostles; and they all changed the world. It is not our stature in life that makes us favored in the eyes of God, it is what is in our heart and soul. Mary accepted this challenge because of her unshakeable faith. Sisters and brothers, does your faith approach the faith of Mary? Mary was a very humble maiden and she said, “the low estate of His handmaiden,” yet she became the greatest woman that ever graced this earth. Mary accepted her mission, have you accepted your mission? Her faith was unshaken because she trusted in the LORD. God rewards many times over those that trust in Him. Again, the Old Testament foreshadows the New Testament. In 1 Samuel 2 1-10 the song of Hannah is remarkably similar to Mary’s Canticle; the Magnificat. Sing the praises of the LORD just as Mary did. Humble yourself and you will be exalted in the eyes of God.
LORD I pray I have the humility of Mary. I pray my confidence in my faith will forever remain strong and nothing will shake my belief. May my heart be ablaze with the unquenchable love of You and the Kingdom You lay before me. Jesus, I trust in You. AMEN
